This condominium sits between the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica and the Rose Avenue section of Venice, two areas that have recently seen a surge in development, thanks in part to the booming tech district anchored by Google’s Southern California offices, less than five minutes away by car.

Ocean View Park, which has a lawn and beachside tennis courts, is about a mile away, as is the beach. A stretch of Lincoln Boulevard with a Whole Foods grocery store and a CVS is about a 10-minute walk; Culver City and Los Angeles International Airport are about a 20-minute drive.

Built in 1896 for Albert H. Beach, a local businessman, this house was bought in the late 1990s by Harry G. Parashis, an art gallery owner who restored a number of historic homes in California. Mr. Parashis worked with the wallpaper company Bradbury & Bradbury to add period-appropriate wallcoverings to many of the rooms in this house.

Escondido, one of the oldest cities in San Diego County, has a population of more than 150,000. This house is about five minutes from Grand Avenue, a major thoroughfare lined with restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. Downtown San Diego is a 30- to 40-minute drive, depending on traffic.

Behind the living room is an open dining area and a kitchen with granite counters. On the other side of the kitchen is another dining area, in front of glass doors that open to the back patio.

From the foyer, a hallway extends toward the right side of the house, where there are three bedrooms. At the far end of the hall is the primary suite, which has a large walk-in closet and a bathroom with access to outdoor stairs leading to the swimming pool. Two more bedrooms, roughly equal in size, are also off the main hallway; one has wood-paneled walls and is currently used as a home office. They share a bathroom with a combination tub and shower.

A staircase in the foyer leads to the lower level, where there is a spacious den with sliding-glass doors that open to the pool area, as well as another bedroom and a full bathroom.
